There's nothing like a good book that grabs your attention with a flashy cover,
promises a story of intrigue and desire
offers to change your life or perspective
A lot of us read on our devices
I do
It's not the same as holding a book, though
in fact, unlike the e-reader,
the weight and feel of a book will fill your senses,
heighten your awareness
peak your curiosity
The musty scent of old pages or
that fresh-off-the-printer smell
Will give you an experience that the digital can't replicate
You can turn the pages of a novel
flip through a memoir
and experience not one single technical error,
no spinning wheel, no need to reboot or charge
The old-fashioned need for a bookmark returns
use that one you saved from childhood
pull out a special card or note from the drawer
or simply bend and crease the top left corner
Magic!
return to where you left off in less time than it takes to power up your device
Go ahead
Pick your poison
fiction
biography
passion
self-help
Then head to "your space"
Sit outside
Lay in your hammock
Climb into bed
Go somewhere you enjoy and aren't distracted
leave your phone behind or put it on DND
Notice the pages
How do they feel in your fingers?
are they hefty and thick?
or soft and thin?
Read the prologue and dedications
Take it all in
Your book has plans for you
It's special, unique
Its cover makes a simple promise
Escape to another world
Learn something new
Be enlightened
Soak in the simplicity
and
come back tomorrow
