Dusting

I've been dusting and rearranging furniture
decluttering the clutter
storing knick-knacks
tossing trash
Sometimes it's hard to stop
My eyes are so trained on "change"
every time I sit down
I see something new to move
rehang
reposition
put away
Clearing out clutter
is refreshing
cleansing
Rearranging gives new life to the old
affords an opportunity for revival
Perspectives amend
productivity emerges
At some point
though
it's time to stop moving the furniture
rearranging the pictures
rotating the trinkets
After the work
it's to pause
experience the refreshment of new design
appreciate the simplicity of a refurbished space
Isn't it so with life?
when we offer ourselves up for change
subject our mental
emotional
spiritual
physical states
to vulnerability
we clear the dust from our time-worn views
unfasten windows
unlock doors
reframe our outlook
make room for the overlooked
unobstructed and fresh perspective
As our new dawn breaks
our muddied waters clear
we must not forget
to stop and enjoy the view
Otherwise, our hard work has been in vain
