The Beatles captured the meaning of life with “Love is all You Need.” The word “Love” is used a lot...maybe an “I love you” to your significant other, a “love ya” text to your child or to a friend or the closing of a hand written note (remember those?!).

I believe that our world was created in love and for love. Love is essential to life. We need love to survive. We need to be loved and to love.

A simple concept can be hard to follow through with, though, especially in our culture. While the act of loving isn’t always easy, it’s the most important job we have. Love is the meaning of life.

Often I’m taken aback by all of the hatred in the world...the divisiveness, the rudeness, the isolation, segregation, “us” and “them” attitudes and mentality, exclusion, legalism, hatred...I could go on but I think I’ve made the point.

“All you need is love. Love is all you need.” —The Beatles

Finding love, loving and being loved isn’t always the easy road. Loving well is hard. My example is to look at others who love well...my mom and dad, my husband and children, friends and most of all Jesus because He loved well and knew. Period. He lived His calling, His message, His purpose. He shunned legalism. He spent his time with the marginalized, the hurting, the sick, the broken...people like you and me.

Living a life of love is what I’d like for people to remember about me...not in a grandiose or bragging way. I just want to be known for loving. Of course, I have and will have my moments that don’t seem so loving, but as long as I return again and again to the meaning of life, then Love will remain my guide in all that I do.
