Roll Up a Joint...or don't

Lately, I just can't get enough of Kacey Musgraves. Her songs are so clever with amazing, creative lyrics.

I've always liked her music, but when Don and I took Baker to see her perform at the Beacon Theatre in New York, she really won me over.

I like her individuality...the way she owns who she is and makes no apologies. Of course, I only see her from a fan's perspective, and the star persona isn't always a reflection of someone's true personality.

Famous people are easily judged from afar. In truth, many spend time judging others who they don't know.

Knowing some of the people that I know including music, film, broadway and television stars, rarely, is the public perception the reality of the core of the individual.

I want to practice avoiding jumping to conclusions about people that I don't know. Everyone needs grace. I need to stop judging, being overly opinionated.

Everyone deserves a chance. You don't know until you know.

I hope that others will give me the same grace. People are worth knowing, not just observed from our "high towers."

Kacey was quickly judged when she wrote the song "Follow Your Arrow" and mentioned rolling a joint...the point being that we should live life on our own terms, taking our own path and not allowing others to influence you with their opinions/objections/criticism.

Then Kacey adds "I would"... funny, honest, clever, her truth.

One of her other songs that I really love is "Wonder Woman" (for two reasons)

1. Because the lyrics are just "the plain, awesome truth"

2. Because "Wonder Woman" - wherever it's used always brings a loved one to mind (this reason is the best!)

"Wonder Woman" says so much. There's insight, truth, vulnerability and realism. I feel "let me off the hook" so to speak.

I'm not Wonder Woman, and I'm not a Super Mom. I don't live in a movie. I don't have super powers (maybe sometimes). I'm human. Best of all I'm me...therein lies the truth in the beauty of imperfection and grace.

Thanks, Kacey, for sharing your creativity and honesty. I see you from a distance. I do not know you other than from my Spotify Playlist and the stage at The Beacon.
