Sedation, a partial meaning, as defined by dictionary.com:
the calming of mental excitement or abatement of physiological function
Jordany is having 4 teeth extracted today and a space maintainer placed in both the upper and lower areas of the mouth.
His mouth is too small for all of his teeth
He was given some "sleepy juice" prior to being taken back to have his teeth pulled
Rather than experiencing the "calming of mental excitement",
he fell more in the category of "abatement of physiological function"
He ramped up his questions and curiosity regarding everything
Will Scout lay down on the couch with me when I get home?
How will I get into bed? Just jump in like I usually do?
Why can't I use a straw?
Alex probably can't come over, right?
Am I supposed to feel kinda crazy?
Will I have dinner?
What about lunch?
What food will I eat?
something soft or medium or hard?
I can probably play tomorrow, right?
Even though his mental energy heightened,
His physical presence became "loosey goosey"
every long, lanky limb... a noodle
With less body control and more grogginess,
he leaned back onto me
I wrapped my arms around him
he asked me to scratch his head, "ahh! that's the spot...ahhh"
he told me I was warm
he put his cheek on my chest, hugged me
asked me if I had on lotion... I said, "yes"
he said, "Mmmm, you smell good!"
It's been a while since my big 9 year-old has climbed into my lap and cuddled
For me, his sleepy but curious state, was a sweet reminder of a younger Jordany,
the little guy who couldn't get enough of mom
the snuggler
the calmer, softer moments we shared more often
This morning, I got a surprising, but welcomed new perspective on sedation!
I got to hold my big, little guy and draw on sweet memories
and at the same time, create new memories
just as sweet... {even if not as often}
Cherish every state
