Great Carpet Layers arrived yesterday

Hefty shears and contraptions

secure and in place

poised to clip bolts

and spruce up my space

It took several hours to get it set straight

from corner to corner

from edge to edge

each little nook tacked and rolled smooth,

properly trimmed

and wedged in its groove

The fit is perfect

the pile is high

the weave is loose

the pattern is simple

Each row cloaked

in diagonal swaths

Each tinted band

unearths a new hue

The feel is soft

cool to the step

primed for the loft

settled and set for

sinking the toes

reciting prose

or better yet

a contemplative pose

Layers of lush catching the eye

vibrant

and

dense

sheltered by sky

Come one

Come all

Your dance card is pulled

Pick a spot

Grab a partner

run

twirl

dip

spring

You're all invited

to prance

dart and dream

Pirouette, spin or roll

Across emerald green
